The Government of India has unveiled a range of scholarship and training programs that are set to benefit the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

The initiative, announced by India’s High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Pradeep Rajpurohit, underlines the deepening relationship between the two nations and seeks to foster educational and cultural exchange.
Education and Training: Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Dr. Rajpurohit declared the same in a simply spectacular cultural event ‘Magic of Kathak’ held at the SANSEC Complex, San Francique. The event was directed and hosted by Oropouche West MP Davendranath Tancoo, where there was a classical Indian dance and music performance, which was also very thrilling. In his speech, he stressed India’s commitment to strengthening historical relations with Trinidad and Tobago via educational collaboration.
He said these programs would open doors for locals, especially those of Indian origin, to access quality education and skill-building opportunities in India. The aim is to foster closer diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between both nations.
Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC): Gateway to Higher Education
One of the strategic initiatives Dr. Rajpurohit spoke about was the Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC). The students eligible are those who are of Indian origin and stay in Trinidad and Tobago and other diaspora communities across the world.
Students getting selected under SPDC would be entitled to pursue undergraduate degrees in streams such as:
- Engineering and Technology
- Business Administration
- Social Sciences
- Pure and Applied Sciences
- Arts and Humanities
This is the best chance for young minds to enjoy world-class education in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies while developing their ties to their roots.
Know India Programme (K.I.P.): Soaking up India’s rich culture
Dr. Rajpurohit asked the youth to apply for the Know India Programme (K.I.P.), an innovative scheme specially targeted for Indian diaspora members, besides the scholarships for education.
K.I.P. conducts a comprehensive three-week India tour that exposes participants to:
- States and cities of India and their respective local traditions
- Businesses in India and their business and economic dealings
- Cultural workshops that bring alive India’s art, music, and culture
This practical course allows one to re-invent their origins while creating priceless international contacts.
Technical Training and Cultural Development: The Lata Mangeshkar Training Programme

In addition to these academic and cultural exposures, the Indian Government is also starting several technical and professional training programs. A major feature of this will be the soon-to-be-launched Lata Mangeshkar Training Programme, after the great Indian singer.
The social, technical, and cultural development programs would include courses in the following:
- Information Technology and Digital Innovation
- Entrepreneurship and Business Management
- Performing Arts and Cultural Studies
- Social Development and Community Leadership
Such training programs are geared towards equipping the participants with modern skills and traditional knowledge that are supposed to spur personal and professional growth further richening the ties of Indo-Trinidadian relations.
A Promising Future for Indo-Trinidadian Relations
The announcement of these scholarships and training opportunities vividly highlights India’s old and deep commitment to nurturing its relationship with Trinidad and Tobago. The scheme is poised to empower the youth through education, culture, and technical training and ultimately bolster the bridge between the two nations even further.
As applications open for these prestigious programs, eligible Trinidad and Tobago nationals, especially those of Indian heritage, are encouraged to seize this incredible opportunity to study, train, and experience India firsthand.
