Scholarships for Nanotech Students at UAlbany: $5,000 Aid

UAlbany offers $5,000 scholarships for students in nanotechnology, preparing them for semiconductor careers through hands-on learning and industry exposure.

UAlbany Launches $5,000 Scholarships for Nanotechnology Aspirants

The University at Albany (UAlbany) is taking a significant step to boost interest in nanotechnology and engineering by offering $5,000 scholarships to outstanding students. This initiative, aimed at shaping the next generation of semiconductor experts, is backed by federal funding under the CHIPS and Science Act.

About the Scholarships

The Semiconductor and Microelectronics Leadership Program provides financial aid to exceptional high school graduates and transfer students enrolling in UAlbany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE).

Beyond the financial benefit, recipients gain access to exclusive monthly activities designed to immerse them in the semiconductor industry.

Federal Backing: The NORDTECH Connection

This initiative is funded through the Northeast Regional Defense Technology Hub (NORDTECH), a $40 million program established under the CHIPS and Science Act. NORDTECH unites academic institutions, private-sector chip manufacturers, and the U.S. Department of Defense to enhance semiconductor manufacturing and innovation.

Building a Future in Semiconductors

Dr. Nathaniel Cady, CNSE’s associate dean for research, highlighted the program’s role in workforce development. “These scholarships aim to attract students to microelectronics-focused majors, offering hands-on experiences in chip fabrication, electronic design, and more,” Cady said. “We’re preparing students for impactful careers in the semiconductor industry.”

Who Can Apply?

Eligible students can major in:

  • Nanoscale Science
  • Nanoscale Engineering
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering

The one-time $5,000 scholarship enhances their academic journey while introducing them to cutting-edge opportunities in semiconductors and microelectronics.
